On Sunday morning we got up late and went to grab breakfast on our way to the Smithsonian museums!
The morning/afternoon was perfect for museum hopping because it was a little rainy/overcast. Unfortunately, a lot of other people had the same idea, so the museums were pretty packed!
We walked by the Smithsonian Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden...
on the way to the Natural Museum of Natural History. Wow, were we overwhelmed with information, but it was all really cool!
We started off our tour with the "Birds of DC Hall"
We then headed to the "Mammal Hall", probably our favorite. We definitely spend the most time here!
The nature photography exhibit was really awesome too!

then on to the "Dinosaurs/Paleobiology Hall"
At the "Genome Hall" we participated in some experiments on taste and pain
Matt touching an asteroid! It was about this time we ran into "Luke Dunphy" again and one of Matt's coworkers and his family. Of all the places to be, to run into someone we know!

By this time we were getting tired again from all the walking (and reading), so we set out to find lunch. We spent about 3-3.5 hours at the Natural History Museum, but definitely could have spent much more time! In search of a Five Guys (a DC original) we walked past the "Smithsonian Castle" which previously housed the original Smithsonian museum exhibits.
It turned out the Five Guys location we were planning to go to was closed since it was Sunday. By this point we were super tired and hungry so we broke the "vacation rule" of eating only at local restaurants, and stumbled into the first air conditioned place we came to, trusty Potbelly's Sandwich Shop. After resting for a bit, we headed to the National Air and Space Museum.
In addition to the pictures below, we also touched a moon rock, piloted a 3-D simulator (Matt was the pilot, I was the gunnar-shot down 7 bad guys!), saw the inside of the Sky Lab Orbital workshop and the inside of a Boeing 747 cockpit.

We headed back to the hotel and broke the vacation rule again, we ended up ordering way overprice room service as a snack :)
